The Return Of The Bolero: Your Sleeved Solution!

Bolero.  No, not the music and dance.  The jacket.  Yes, the old tradition of having some sleeves on your “I do” day is becoming acceptable again.  Thank you, fashion trends, for embracing vintage and allowing those who are insecure about their arms to have an acceptable option for disguising them.

The bolero is, in fact, so great that many who have nothing to hide at all are opting for it.  Wearing the lace shrug adds a regal elegance.  So much so that Kate Middleton married Prince William sporting the look.  Her Alexander McQueen wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton, had the appearance of a lace bolero (though it wasn’t), with lace sleeves that came down to cover the bodice.  Her reception dress, also designed by Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, was worn under an angora bolero.  SO, the moral of the story is,  a bolero is classy-something worth considering, toned arms or not!

On top, these short sleeved boleros still let you show off those sun-kissed arms while rocking the vintage splendor that is the bolero.  Check out the one on the left for something different; it’s longer and close-fitted, and is secured in place by a ribbon around the waist.

These longer sleeve options (in the center) tend to be my favorite.  The one on the right, I love how the cut makes it lay form-fitted, especially over the collar bones!  The one on the left isn’t really a bolero, but adds the same effect with a little bit of a variation.  It has sleeves but goes underneath the bodice of your dress to cover more (great if you don’t want to show too much chest) and lays off the shoulders.

On the bottom-left is another way to switch it up, choosing one that is a color variation.  I’ve seen plenty that I love from a cream-colored lace bolero with champagne and gold-embroidered accents, to ones like this that are the another color.  It’s definitely not for every bride but don’t forget that it’s an option!.
