A food buffet: A chance to display

When imagining your beautiful reception, sometimes it’s easy to forget all the food that will be incorporated in your buffet-style reception!  One resource that’s nice to tap into is using your food as décor, and using your food tables to illustrate your theme!

One great example of this I’ve seen, as pictured above, is a wedding I saw that used faux grass to illustrate the warm, grassy spring feel that ran throughout the rest of the wedding.  With a “naked” cake with strawberries on top, to strawberries to garnish the tables, the spring theme carried throughout; but the grass table-tops were the absolute best touch, making the theme undeniable, while still light hearted and fun!

You want your guests to be impressed with the display of the food at your wedding!  Presentation of the food, is every bit as important as the actual taste, so it’s important for them to tell you put thought into the details, and effort!

Use colorful foods, and fill in between foods with garnish that contributes to your theme (for example, bright fruits for spring, grapevines and leafy garland for fall) or flowers.  You can even use foods to display foods.  Hollow out a red/green/yellow pepper to serve veggie dip in; or a pineapple for a fruit dip.  Another creative way to display your food table is to have different dishes at different elevations on the table-this can be done by using stacks of books or boxes.

Remember to use some sort of centerpiece.  A table looks so much more organized when there’s a focal point.  Whether you want to go extravagant, with an ice sculpture, or something more practical, like a chocolate or drink fountain, or some flowers or art to match your theme.

One trick to make things look more organized is to mirror your dishes (have two of each dish, one at each end of the table).
